Liposuction Consult: Common Things Patients Forget to Ask

If you are thinking about getting liposuction done, you will have a consultation with a plastic surgeon.  When you are in the office, there are things you do not want to forget to ask the doctor.  By asking the doctor the right questions, you will be able to be more comfortable about the procedure.  You want to make sure the surgery is right for you, and with the right questions, you will be able to do just that.

Most patients assume they should just trust in the doctor and not bother him with their questions.  That leads to people choosing the wrong surgeon, or not being happy with their results.  There has to be communication between the patient and the surgeon in order to get the best results for the patient.

First, you need to discuss risk factors.  If you have more than average risk, you need to know.  For example, certain medical conditions can put you at a greater risk during the surgery.  This is something you want to discuss so you will be able to make sure you are a good candidate for liposuction.

Some people want to have the procedure done so badly they fail to mention their individual risks.  This is never a good idea.  You never want to put your life in jeopardy to get a plastic surgery procedure done.

Another thing that must be discussed is scaring. Often, a plastic surgeon can look at the procedure and have an idea of how he will hide the scars.  This is very important.  You will not have the look you want if you have a lot of scaring, so you need to know if you can get the procedure done with minimal scaring.

Skilled plastic surgeons have a way of hiding the scaring so scars are not nearly as prominent.  You should listen to your surgeonís plan so you will know if you will be pleased with the results.

You also need to ask to see photos of procedures he has done.  When you ask this, make a point to mention you do not want to see stock photos.  You want to see real pictures of people he has given the procedure to.  That will allow you to see real results.

Ask to see pictures where he removed fat from the same areas you are getting fat removed.  This will give you a better idea of what you will look like after the procedure.  Keep in mind, though, that certain factors can prevent you from getting the same results.

Lastly, you need to ask the plastic surgeon how many of liposuction procedures he has performed.  You want to make sure you pick a surgeon that has practice with the procedure.  That will minimize your risks and optimize your results.

Never go into a consultation without arming yourself with the right questions.  A consultation is your time to decide if the procedure is right for you, and you want to make sure you ask the questions necessary so you will know that.
