Smart Lipo and Depression

There are many emotional benefits to smart lipo.  Often, people will get increased self esteem and feel better than they ever have before.  Many people leave the plastic surgeon’s office already feeling emotional benefits of the surgery.

However, occasionally patients will go through a depression before they are able to get the increased self esteem.  If that occurs, one should not panic.  There are things that can be done to alleviate the depression symptoms.

When people take the time to care for their depression, they are then able to really enjoy the benefits of the procedure.  In most cases, the depression will not last long if people deal with it correctly.

People get depressed after cosmetic surgery for different reasons, and smart lipo is no exception.  Some people have a hard time immediately dealing with and accepting the body changes.  Others have a sense of guilt.  Maybe they have lost weight and their spouse is still heavy.  Whatever the case may be, the feelings are overpowering for some.

When you evaluate the root of the issue, you will be able to then start to tackle it.  Think about what the problem is associated with the weight loss.  In some cases, you will just need some time to get used to your new body and the image that comes with it.

When you have a weight loss surgery, people might expect you to come out of the procedure bouncing off the walls.  They will expect you to be happy because you have just done something to enhance your looks.  Because of that, your friends and family may not understand the depression you are feeling.

When that is the case, take the time to talk to someone who can help you.  You can talk to your smart lipo doctor, or even a counselor.  Just talk to someone who can understand your issues and help you work through them.

When you dedicate some time to the issue, you will be surprised by how quickly the depression symptoms alleviate.  Often, you just need someone who understands the life changes you have experienced.  If you do not want to talk to someone, there are other things you can do in order to alleviate symptoms.

Two weeks after the procedure, you can start to exercise.  If you are feeling depressed, incorporate some exercise into your life.  Exercise is a proven method to help alleviate depression symptoms.  You can start off slow by going on a walk, or do some intense cardio.  Whatever the case may be, use exercise to feel better.

You can also take the time to get used to the results of the surgery.  Take the time to really get to know the new body you have.  Then you will not shy away from the compliments.  Examine yourself in the mirror and get comfortable with your looks.  As you get more used to your body, the depression will begin to lift.

Many people benefit from plastic surgery.  Some people have to work through some depression so they can realize the full amount of benefits of the procedure, but when they do, most are pleased with the results.  If you end up having depression after a plastic surgery procedure, take the time to work on that depression so you can really enjoy the results.
