A Look at Cosmetic Surgery 101

Man is never contented with their appearance. They become uncomfortable whenever they see stretch marks or scars in any part of their body. With the availability of new technologies and procedures, they would be willing to spend thousands of dollars just to correct any imperfection in their body. For this reason, cosmetic surgery has become popular over the years.

Cosmetic surgery is a procedure designed to correct abnormalities in the physical appearance of an individual. Likewise, the aim of cosmetic surgery is to improve the appearance and physical feature of the patient. It can be used for repairing damages caused by burn, remove wrinkles, breast enlargement, or nose lift.

Long ago, cosmetic surgery was limited to procedures that were vital to the health and well-being of the patient. It was required for procedures such as skin grafting, reconstruction of a dislodged eye, broken nose or jaw repair. During World War I, it was used for treating and reconstructing injuries on young soldiers.

Cosmetic surgery as a cosmetic procedure was not as popular as it is now fifty years ago. In fact, it was unheard of and considered as a taboo. Celebrities and other members of the elite would disappear for a few months and then surface after undergoing cosmetic surgery.

Recently, however, cosmetic surgery has gained in popularity. Today, it is a widely accepted practice and those wishing to change their appearance can find a wide array of choices ranging from tucks and snips to complete facelift.

Among the more popular procedures in cosmetic surgery include Smart Liposuction, which removes excess fat from the body using a tube and vacuum device; laser facial resurfacing, designed for smoothening of the facial linings surrounding the eyes and mouth as well as removes facial blemish; Other popular procedures in cosmetic surgery include facelift, which pulls back the skin surrounding the face, neck, and jowls; breast enlargement uses saline implants to improve the size of the breasts; and hair replacement surgery, which fills in the balding portion by using the patient's own hair.

However, before considering cosmetic surgery, an individual should bear in mind that undergoing such kind of procedure can be risky and have side effects. Not all procedures deliver the desired results that both the doctor and patient expect. Recovery can be painful and prone to infection.

Although cosmetic surgery can be a viable alternative, the patient should be wise in choosing their doctors by getting referrals and maintain realistic goals.
